"My house shall be called a house of prayer." Matthew 21:13
Last month on July 30th of this year, I had a dream throughout the middle of the night that I was standing on a stage in a theatre for a church service. In the dream as I began to pray on this stage I became distracted by the level of disrespect from the people that were sitting in the audience. As I prayed, my eyes were closed but at the same time it was as though I could see what was going on around me. Many people within the theatre were talking and whispering. Some were eating snacks on the front row and moving throughout the theatre with no level of reverence for the place that we called the house of God. It all seemed so natural to the people, just as it would if you were sitting in a movie theatre eating and talking while a moving is playing.
As the dream continued, I stopped praying and began to tell the people sitting within the theatre to repent of these kinds of simple activities in this church. I remember laying on the stage of the movie theatre crying so hard... It appeared as though I was broken and hurt from what was happening and then I woke up.
When I awoke that morning I forgot the dream, but as I began to pray God brought it back to my remembrance. I truly believe that God had me to share this dream because our churches as a whole has disrespected Him by treating His churches or houses of worship like movie theaters. We are truly all guilty. We eat, talk and text people throughout service and constantly move around throughout church services while pastors and preachers are giving the morning message.
The place where we worship and praise God is the same place where God's presence abides and shows up to manifest His love, grace, healing and deliverance, and voice. Jesus made this very clear. One day while Jesus was in Jerusalem he paid the temple of God a visit. I believe he was more than likely going in to simply pray and worship. When he walked into the temple, Jesus became very upset at what the people within the temple had made of it(Matthew 21:12). Jesus spoke these words to everyone within the temple saying, "It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but you have made it a den of thieves." Matthew 21:13. I truly believe that God is reminding us of more than just our eating or texting, but the purpose of His presence within our midst. We are to not grieve God because of our disobedience.
As soon as Jesus corrected what had happened in the temple, we immediately see that the healing manifestation of God was performed as the blind and the lame came to him and were healed. Matthew 21:14. This is what God wants and it is still His will to see His presence flow throughout our midst.
Don't rob God of this exchange. He still wants to MOVE, and we must continue to respect His mighty power in order for Him to move.
