Choosing to relax, trust, and be at peace with every intricate detail of our lives are all choices that we have to make on a daily basis. Often times we tend to book a vacation or simply wish that the things in life that we are facing would just "go away". While there is completely nothing wrong with taking a vacation for relaxation, we must learn that not even getting away will force our problems to quickly go away. We must learn to weather the storms of life by giving them over to God and allowing Him to help us.
If I can think of anybody who knew how to relax in the middle of a storm, it would be Jesus. I'm reminded of the story in the bible with Jesus and His disciples as they were in a boat on the sea when a great windstorm arose. The story reads in Mark 4:35-41 that Jesus was fast asleep while the storm was causing the waves from the water to begin to fill the boat. I would imagine that today's weatherman would categorize this as a tropical storm or a hurricane. In the midst of Jesus being asleep, the story continues to read that the disciples became frazzled and begin to question Jesus's concern for them. The disciples came and awoke Jesus and said "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?"
Now look at that. The disciples specifically called him "Teacher". When I went to look up the word teacher, Webster's defines it is a person whose job is to teach students about certain subjects. The disciples were the students, Jesus of course was the teacher, and the subject being taught was learning how to remain calm in the midst of a storm. This story is so awesome. I'm not sure about you, but I would definitely want a teacher around in the middle of a crisis, sleep or awake! Often times we tend to forget that in the personal storms of life that we are not alone. God is always with us, and sometimes He will sit back to see if we will trust and believe Him.
If it is one thing that I am learning lately, it is to allow myself to relax in God and be at ease. When we begin to find ourselves in a place of being relaxed, we'll begin to trust-- and when we trust, we have confidence and faith. Just as you find yourself going to the beach and creating a pallet on the sand to relax and layout, so must we create a mental pallet within our minds to be at a state of ease.
Let the remainder of this week bring you great tidings of peace. It shall be well with you!
Relax in His presence,
